Hi Team,

We are running Windows machin on KVM hypervisor and found few machines are getting unresponsive -but do not fail - and the only way to get them running is to restart the VM. I checked windows logs and found a lot of Viostor Warning message as below.

Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort01, was issued

Can this cause the VM getting unresponsive. Below is the screenshot for the virtio drivers details.

Hmm. Will have to look for an alternate solution. Not sure if this will be implemented in future. :)

2017-05-08 12:02:04 +0300 asked a question unable to download the nano server package on new nano server

Hi , I just installed our first nano server on our openstack compute node (hypervisor- KVM) and set the proxy of the nano server using the below code:

$proxy = 'myproxy' $port = myportno $regKey='HKLM:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings' Set-ItemProperty -path $regKey ProxyEnable -value 1 -ErrorAction Stop Set-ItemProperty -path $regKey ProxyServer -value "${Proxy}:${Port}" -ErrorAction Stop

However when i run install-packageprovider nanoserverpackage, it gives me an error related to internet connection. WARNING: Unable to download the list of available providers. Check your internet connection i had to download the package on a local machine - copy it to nano using Copy-item and then install it. Is there a way to connect to the proxy from nano server - download -install?

Thanks.

Hi, We continue to face the same issue. Can QCOW2 images be the reason for this - we have boot from volume though in our environment.

hi Adrian, apologize to have been missed out mentioning live migration in actual post. Yes, we face this issue post live migration. We are using Openstack Juno with KVM and libvirt. I tested it with new drivers and still facing this issue. The VM having this issues are using QCOW2 images.

We continue to face the same issue on the windows VM. Initially we found that the balloon drivers were not installed on affected VM and we installed it on all the VM. However this does not seem to have fixed the issue and few VM still becomes unresponsive after live migration.

hi, I am using the github cloudbase/windows-openstack-imaging-tools to automate windows image creation. the script works fine and do creates the raw image file however is there a way to apply the group policy while creating the image? I have the .inf file imported from the Group policy. Can I apply it during the specialize or any other phase?

2016-11-11 22:00:03 +0300 marked best answer Windows image creation automation

Hi, I am using the github cloudbase/windows-openstack-imaging-tools to automate windows image creation however while booting up the image in openstack I get the below error. "Windows could not parse or process the unattend answer file for pass [specialize]" with component being Microsoft-Windows-Deployment" On checking the setuperr.log file at windws\panter\unattendGC I got the below logs:

"hit an error while running "C:\Program Files\Cloudbase Solutions\Cloudbase-Init\Python\Scripts\cloudbase-init.exe" --config-file "C:\Program Files\Cloudbase Solutions\Cloudbase-Init\conf\cloudbase-init-unattend.conf"

This portion is from my custom unattend file that I have kept in the c drive of the actual image (using DISM command line) and I modified the logon.ps1 to use this file while running the sysprep:

$unattendedXmlPath = "$ENV:\Unattend.xml"
Set-PersistDrivers -Path $unattendedXmlPath -Persist:$persistDrivers
& "$ENV:SystemRoot\System32\Sysprep\Sysprep.exe" `/generalize `/oobe `/shutdown `/unattend:"$unattendedXmlPath"

So the first boot seems to be taking the setting from this unattend fle rather than the actual unattendtemplate.xml available in the script. Any idea how to avoid this? I want to run the custom unattend file during the sysprep post booting up the instance from base image.

2016-10-12 09:11:37 +0300 asked a question Windows Server becomes unresponsive

Hi, I have couple of windows VM (running on KVM) which becomes unresponsive - ping status works however RDP does not work and horizon console just shows a black screen. The only way to get this up and running is to do a soft reboot from the console. I did it on few VM's and checked the event log. I did not find any error message except few warning for VIOSTOR with event ID 129- Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued. On researching further on this event came across certain article where users have faced such issues on hyper-v and VMware(link below for VMware KB) and the suggestion is to change the controller from scsi to IDE.

Can this be an issue in our case as well on KVM?

Hi, I am trying to create Windows 2012 STD image using the windows openstack imaging tool however I am unable to update the windows using the PSWindowsupdate module. I have forced the registry values to connect to local WSUS server before calling the get-WUinstall cmdlet. However at runtime it just import the module but does not accept/download/install the patch. It is not giving any error and moves to the next step after some time. The same is working fine with Windows 2012 R2 and 2008 R2. Please advice if there is any additional config need to be added for 2012 STD.
