Hi Support,

We succeed to inject password(e.g. randompass) into admin user of windows 2012 server after we had first time boot up the windows server 2012 from cloudbase windows image(https://cloudbase.it/windows-cloud-images/#download). However, when someone changed the admin user password(e.g. userpassword), the "nova get-password instance-id key-pair" command is still retrieving password the first time password(randompass) not return(userpassword). That mean we can't get the latest admin password.

Our question is how can we reset/re-inject the password of admin user again in Openstack environment?

Thanks a lots.

Best regards, George Choi

Hello,

In this case, I suggest you to use a configuration management tool like Chef, Puppet or Ansible. The main responsibility of Cloudbase-init (or cloud-init) is to provision the instance at the first boot time, and not to configure it during its lifecycle. In OpenStack there is no option to reset the password of the machine, thus it cannot be implemented by cloudbase-init.

A workaround in your case would be to rescue the Windows instance and from rescue mode change the configuration appropriately (there are various methods to change the Windows password from a rescue OS).

Thank you,
Adrian Vladu
